09:14 AM on Thursday Jul 24, 2008Bret Bielema is laying down the law as Badger football fall practice begins August 4th. Not a huge surprise when we learned Monday that the UW football team's fall practices will be closed to the media. The only exception will be a scrimmage on Saturday, August 9th. Normally, under Barry Alvarez and current coach Bret Bielema, media members have been allowed to watch at least the first two weeks of practices. This change likely goes back to the media's reporting of injuries at past open practices. Whatever you think of the decision, the facts will be few and far between as the season opens on August 30th. Bielema has made the media's job tougher but he shouldn't care about the media. The third-year UW head coach will have plenty to worry about if his defense and special teams don't improve during fall camp.
