12:38 PM on Saturday Aug 30, 2008The Badgers showed flashes of their ability to be a great team but they also showed signs of a team that may struggle in big games this season. Saturdays game against Akron and next Saturday's game against Marshall is all the time the Badgers will get to work out the rust and kinks with their team. Against Akron Allen Evridge made some nice plays, like his touchdown pass to Garret Graham in the First Quarter. Then he would make some bonehead plays, like his almost interception inside the 20, that drive stalled and ended with a Field Goal. Right before half time he made another bad play resulting in a 63 yard INT return by Akron, which set up a Field Goal for the Zips. Half Time Wisconsin 17 Akron 10 (I'd like to point out that multiple times I predicted a 35-17 win for the Badgers) Numbers: With 10:00 to go in the Third Quarter....P.J. Hill has 191 yards and two touchdowns. He is now Seventh All-Time in Badgers rushing yards history. The Badgers again showed the signs that they can be an elite team, back to back rushing touchdowns (Hill, Zach Brown) and they have pulled away from the Zips....31-10. U.W. has a nice 1, 2, 3 punch at running back. Hill is the complete package as a runner, not sure about his catching abilities. Brown, has a good quick burst of speed but he lacks the elite quickness of a premier back. John Clay, who I think has the potential to be one of the best backs in U.W. history, is a wrecking ball. Overall a good performance by the Badgers but I'm a little worried about the Badgers going forward. Akron missed some big plays that a more talented team would have made, Wisconsin will need to shore up some of their holes before the Fresno State game. More to come after the locker room...... Back....Kirk DeCremer has likely played his last college football down. According to a somewhat emotional Bret Bielema, DeCremer won't be able to make it all the way back from back surgery. FYI...I picked 35-17 Final Score 38-17 Games I'm Watching Tonight: --#20 Illinois at #6 Missouri- If Illinois wins this you can count on them to be players in the Big 10. --#24 Alabama at #9 Clemson - I just like to root against Nick Saban. --Florida Atlantic University at #11 Texas - There is an outside chance my alma mater can pull of this early season upset.
